The 2010 European Parliament´s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought was awarded to the Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas. Participants  of the panel debate discussed the following questions: What is the position of the Sakharov Prize in the context of other human rights instruments of the EU? What effects had the award on the activities of the organization Memorial in 2009? Can the award assist the democratization process in Cuba in the context of EU-Cuba relations?
